In 1985, the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) ordered two pumping stations and five terminals from the former BBC in order to provide drinking water supply in the region of Qassim, Saudi Arabia. Following a lengthy interruption, the project was continued by ABB in 2001. The scope of delivery by ABB included medium and low-voltage systems, static frequency converters, 32 medium voltage motors, process control and monitoring as well as the telecommunications system.
INP Switzerland supported ABB to a significant extent in successfully implementing the project, and with its knowledge of BBC technology (which was no longer available at ABB), succeeded in achieving the "mechanical completion" milestone on schedule. INP Switzerland provided two commissioning engineers, one site manager and a deputy project manager. The plant has been in commercial operation since 2003. The final acceptance certificate was issued in 2005.
