PLANT
The 752 megawatt coal-fired block generated its first electricity on 19 June 1985. Since then, the facility has been used for providing base load and medium load. A slag tap furnace is required for generating electricity from the anthracite coal with low volatility supplied from the adjacent coal mine. The slag tap boiler at Ibbenbüren is the largest boiler of this kind in the world. As well as the main fuel, anthracite coal from Ibbenbüren mine, heating oil is used as an ignition and support fuel, as well as petroleum coke. The operator is RWE Power AG.
