Tasks

SuedLink is a grid expansion project being implemented by the two transmission system operators TenneT and TransnetBW. It consists of two direct current transmission systems between Wilster and Bergrheinfeld/ West and Brunsbüttel and Großgartach (Leingarten), which are planned, built and operated in parallel. To integrate HVDC technology into the existing AC transmission grid, converter stations are needed at the respective starting and end points for voltage conversion. SuedLink is the largest project of the energy turnaround in Germany and will be able to transport a total of 4GW of wind energy from northern Germany to Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg once it is completed.

Project description

Around 700 kilometers of underground cable will be laid and four converter stations built for SuedLink. A total of around ten billion euros is being invested. Once completed, the direct current line will connect the windy regions of northern Germany with the consumption centers in the south of the Federal Republic. In order to efficiently advance the further award procedure, the planning phase and the subsequent construction, TenneT has commissioned INP Deutschland as construction coordinator and supervisor.

INP Services

As a strategic partner of TenneT in the SuedLink project, INP assumes essential tasks in construction coordination and construction supervision as well as construction project management for the three converters under TenneT's responsibility. The tasks include the following areas:

  • Site preparation and supervision of handover to general contractors
  • Coordination of the general contractors commissioned during the construction phase
  • Quality assurance of the planning documents prepared
  • Supervision of construction work with regard to compliance with licensing requirements and conformity with contractual specifications
  • Monitoring occupational safety and environmental protection on the construction sites.

For these tasks, INP will provide a flexibly adaptable team at the Würzburg project site consisting of experts in civil engineering, electrical engineering, and project management. As the project progresses, this team will be expanded in terms of personnel and will then take on construction site-related roles at the respective converter locations.

In addition to the tasks listed above, other INP employees also provide support at other points in the SuedLink project, such as in the planning coordination of the route in the northern sections.
