Official go-ahead for SuedOstLink project in cooperation with INP!

After a long planning and approval phase, construction work began on an underground power line near Landshut at the beginning of December.

This major project is starting earlier than planned thanks to the early approval of the Bundesnetzagentur (Federal Network Agency). This officially marks the start of another major milestone for the energy transition in Germany.

The electricity highway covers 540 kilometers and will be laid through underground cables at a depth of one and a half to two meters. The soil will be removed in layers, temporarily stored and refilled when the pipes are completed.

The direct current comes from wind turbines in the north of Germany, which is then converted into alternating current via transformers and transported to the consumer centers in southern Germany. The lines to be laid will transmit a total of 4,000 megawatts.

The project is necessary because more and more conventional power plants are being taken off the grid in southern Germany and there is an ever-increasing demand for electricity. In contrast, there is actually a surplus of electricity from renewable energies in northern Germany thanks to the windy regions. The surplus production will therefore be transported to the south in future.

In addition, the aim of the energy transition is to generate 80 percent of electricity from renewable energies by 2050.

INP is working on the SuedOstLink project as part of the BM SOL Süd consortium together with the companies CDM Smith, BERNARD and ZETCON.

INP's tasks include construction supervision, monitoring of schedules, risk and claim management and preparation for and participation in official acceptance procedures.

We are still looking for a number of experts for this major project, including a construction supervisor (m/f/d) for cable construction management, construction project assistance and grid expansion citizen advisor. If you are interested, you are welcome to apply here:

The SuedOstLink project is a unique example of the implementation of the energy transition in Germany and makes an important contribution to reducing CO2 emissions.

Commissioning of the power line is planned for 2027.
